The Thoreau Alliance brings Thoreau’s legacy to life by stewarding Thoreau’s birthplace and supporting a vibrant community, inspiring efforts to build the more just, mindful, and sustainable world Thoreau imagined.

The Thoreau Society

Our international community dedicated to Thoreau Studies that fosters cutting-edge scholarship through two publications, an Annual Gathering, conference panels, fellowship awards and more.

Through the Society we stimulate interest in and foster education about Thoreau’s life, work, legacy, rethinking his place in his world and ours, challenging us all to live a deliberate, considered life.

Thoreau Farm

Our home for place-based education in the historic farmhouse where Henry David Thoreau was born. Here, we engage people with Thoreau’s legacy through nature, civics, writing, history, and more.

At Thoreau Farm we offer a broad array of programs, presenting Thoreau’s birthplace and the surrounding landscape as a source of inspiration for living deliberately, practicing simplicity, and exploring new ideas for positive change. We host author talks and workshops for anyone using Thoreau’s writing as a touchstone for their own work.
