Meet Chynna, our new Shop Manager

We are delighted to share that Chynna Lemire has joined us as the new Shop Manager for the Shop at Walden Pond. Chynna returns to us after several years working at the Walden Pond State Reservation, where she remained closely connected with the Shop staff and deepened her ties to the site.

Previously, Chynna served as Business Manager for the Thoreau Society for nearly a decade, giving her extensive familiarity with the Shop’s systems, procedures, and mission. Her return brings both continuity and renewed leadership to the role.

A lifelong New Englander, Chynna finds a strong sense of place in historic Concord and at Walden Pond. She holds undergraduate degrees in Literature and Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and is deeply committed to preserving the ideas of the nineteenth-century New England intellectuals, with the hope that their work continues to shape and enrich the lives of her generation.

We hope you will all help us welcome Chynna back and, if you don’t know her already, please take the chance to meet her the next time you are in Concord.

Welcome to the Thoreau Alliance

As of January 2026, the Thoreau Society and Thoreau Farm are legally merged—a meaningful milestone that allows us to streamline administration and devote more of our time and energy to what we care about most: sharing Thoreau’s legacy with a world that needs it now more than ever.

This transition has been guided by thoughtful conversation, shared values, and the strength of our community. By joining together, we gain the stability, infrastructure, and welcoming public home needed to focus on people, programs, and the exchange of ideas. As we move forward, we remain committed to keeping you informed, heard, and included.

Looking ahead, we are focused on protecting and strengthening what we have built. Thank you for your trust and partnership as we carry this work ahead—together.
